The Four Phases of the Logan Services Plumbing Apprenticeship

The apprenticeship is divided into four structured phases, each building on the last to ensure apprentices gain technical expertise, communication skills, and confidence at every stage of their development.

Phase 1: Drain Apprentice

This phase introduces apprentices to basic drain systems, tools, and service procedures while working alongside experienced technicians and learning Logan Services processes.

Timeline: 6 Weeks

Focus Areas: 

  • Drain system basics

  • Tool usage and safety

  • Service procedures

  • Customer communication fundamentals

Phase 2: Drain Technician

In this phase, apprentices gain hands-on experience diagnosing and resolving drain issues while continuing to build technical skills, customer communication, and job execution knowledge.

Timeline: 14 Weeks

Training Includes: 

  • Drain diagnostics and repairs

  • Job setup and workflow

  • Customer interaction

  • Field safety and best practices

Phase 3: Plumbing Apprentice

Apprentices transition into full plumbing training, learning repairs, installations, and system diagnostics while working under the guidance of experienced plumbers.

Timeline: 10 Weeks 

Training Includes: 

  • Plumbing repairs and installations

  • Water heater systems

  • Whole-home plumbing systems

  • Job execution and documentation

Phase 4: Residential Plumber

The final phase focuses on developing independence, advanced technical ability, and confidence needed to perform plumbing work at a professional level while continuing mentorship and evaluations.

Field Training and Learning Support

All apprenticeships take place in Logan Services’ state-of-the-art Training Center, with curriculum built by our Apprenticeship Development & Systems Manager through online Learning Management Systems (LMS). Apprentices complete modules, quizzes, and evaluations while receiving hands-on instruction in the field. Lead Plumbers act as mentors, guiding apprentices in both technical skills and professional behaviors.

How Long Does the Plumbing Apprenticeship Take?

The program follows a four-phase structure lasting about 50 weeks, though timing may vary based on performance and skill development.

No prior experience is required. No prior plumbing experience is required. Apprentices begin in the Drain Apprentice phase, which teaches new team members everything they need to know to get started, and progress through each stage as their skills develop.

Apprentices must maintain good attendance, complete online modules, demonstrate a willingness to learn, and uphold Logan Services’ customer service and performance standards.

No, instead our apprenticeship program is a paid training opportunity. Apprentices receive compensation while learning on the job and are not required to pay tuition or fees.

Graduates become Certified Lead Plumbers with the potential to earn $65,000–$110,000 annually, with additional opportunities to advance into mentorship or leadership roles.

Apprentices spend time both in the classroom and in the field. A typical day may include a ride-along with a Phase 3 Plumber (someone training to be a Lead Plumber), hands-on work with plumbing systems, and dedicated time for completing online training modules.
