Protecting your Ohio home from water damage is crucial, and a properly functioning sump pump is vital in keeping your basement dry. A sump pump is a mechanical device installed in the lowest part of your basement or crawl space, typically in a specially constructed pit called a sump pit. It removes excess water that accumulates in the pit, preventing it from flooding your basement. Sump pumps are activated by a float switch, which triggers the pump to start working when the water level in the pit reaches a certain height. Over time, sump pumps can experience wear and tear, leading to the need for repair, replacement, or new installation. The following sections will explore common issues homeowners face with their sump pumps and provide expert guidance on addressing them effectively, as well as tips for proper installation.

The lifespan of a sump pump depends on various factors, including quality, usage, and maintenance. On average, a well-maintained sump pump lasts 7 to 10 years. Some high-quality pumps may last even longer with proper care and regular maintenance.
The sump pump size you need depends on your home’s square footage, the depth of your basement, and the amount of water typically collected in your sump pit. A professional plumber can assess your home’s needs and recommend the appropriate sump pump size and horsepower rating.
It is advisable to test your sump pump at least once every three to four months, especially before the rainy season or periods of heavy snow melt. Regular testing checks that your pump functions properly and can handle the water inflow when needed. Simply pour a bucket of water into the sump pit and observe if the switch activates and the pump removes the water effectively.

“Great service and a great product! Highly recommend! Kyle and Hakim were very friendly and professional!”
“From start to finish, I’m very happy with the entire process and the product.
First, the phone call to Logan Services. The woman who answered the phone was very nice and friendly. Right away, I felt this was a family business (which I like). She took my information and explained the process. She made a GREAT first impression, which is also very important.
Second, the next day, their salesperson, James, came to the house on time. He was actually a bit early, but called first to make sure that was ok. He was the last of the three companies that I obtained quotes from, and I think he was the right balance between technical and explaining things easily. Friendly, sensed he had a vested interest in helping us, whether we went with his company or not. He was a bit higher than a competitor, and I asked him if he could do anything, but he said he put his best foot forward, and I actually respect that. In some regards, I respect that more than if he dropped a few bucks. Within five minutes of him leaving, we felt comfortable with Logan Services and Trane, and I was able to catch him in his car before he pulled away. That was around 4 pm on a Friday afternoon.
On Tuesday, the two installers, Kyle and Jarrett, arrived on time. Very polite, they looked things over, they put pads/rugs down from my door, all the way down the stairs to the basement, and into the unfinished area. I was surprised at the lack of noise; I was expecting it to be louder. They knew I was dreading the day, as it was going to be 95 degrees out and I was working from my home office, which was right next to the front door, and had turned down the AC before they shut everything down. Every single time they went in and out, they closed the door behind them, so that the house would remain as cool as possible. Between that and the lack of noise they made, it made working from home easy and productive for me. When they were done, they showed us how to set up and operate the new thermostat (which is much more sophisticated than a Nest), showed us the furnace and chiller in the basement, and the work they did, as well as the unit outside. When they left and we walked around the house, it was as if they were never there. No garbage at all from the install, not even a piece of paper.
We are really happy with how things went, from the first call through to the completion of the install. While only running a few hours now, it is much quieter than what we had previously, and I’m looking forward to seeing the savings via lower electric bills, as well as greatly reducing the temperature difference between the first and second floors.
I would highly recommend Logan Services to anyone seeking a new, quality AC/Furnace.”
“Fast and professional service technicians that I would highly recommend to anyone needing any heating, air, or plumbing services! I give Logan Services a 5-star recommendation!”
“Got a new Trane furnace and air conditioning installed by Griffin and Brandon. They did an excellent job. I highly recommend Logan Services!”
