Homeowners Trust Logan A/C And Heat Services For Furnace Replacement

Replacing a furnace is a big investment, and no one understands that better than Logan A/C and Heat Services. If you own your home for more than a few years, this task is likely to come up eventually. Our goal for furnace replacement in Ohio is to make it as simple and seamless as possible. We achieve this with excellent customer service to help you select a new furnace and expert installation to ensure it works well for years to come.

When to Consider Heating Replacement

At Logan A/C and Heat Services, we know that everyone wants to get the most from their home’s equipment, especially the furnace. After about 15 years, you should compare the simplicity of using the same machine with the comfort, convenience and benefits of a new furnace.

If your furnace meets the following criteria, consider adding furnace replacement service to your budget sometime soon:

  • Your furnace is 10-15+ years old: Older machines are more likely to break down and require costly repairs. Replacing it at a good time for you may be a better investment in your comfort.
  • Output is going down: Your furnace’s stated efficiency is as good as it gets with a new machine and perfect maintenance. Over time, that efficiency will drop.
  • Energy bills are going up: If your furnace is starting to show signs of wear, you will probably notice it first in your utility bills.
  • Air quality is questionable: When we replace your furnace, we can often improve your home’s indoor air quality.
  • You need major repairs: We want to help you avoid throwing good money away. If the repair estimate is more than half the new furnace cost, you may get a better result with replacement.

Different types of Furnaces:

When it’s time to replace your outdated furnace, you have several options to consider for your home’s new heating system. The main types of furnaces are:

Gas Furnaces

Gas furnaces are the most popular choice for homes today. They burn natural gas or propane to generate heat. This fuel is delivered to the furnace by pipes and ignited by a pilot light or electric igniter. The burning fuel heats up a heat exchanger, which in turn warms up air blown through your ductwork.

Gas furnaces are highly energy efficient, with high-end models achieving AFUE ratings of 96-98%. This means up to 98% of the fuel is converted to usable heat. They also provide comfortable, consistent heat. The upfront cost is relatively affordable. Downsides include dependence on fossil fuels and air pollution.

Electric Furnaces

Electric furnaces use heating elements rather than combustion to create heat. They have lower equipment and installation costs compared to gas furnaces. However, operating costs are higher as electricity is more expensive per BTU than natural gas. Electric furnaces may make sense in areas without natural gas access or for supplemental heat. They provide quiet, clean operation with no fumes.

Oil Furnaces

Oil furnaces burn heating oil, also known as fuel oil, to provide warm air throughout your home. They contain a burner that ignites the oil and a heat exchanger to transfer warmth into the air. Oil furnaces are common in regions without access to natural gas. However, oil is more expensive than natural gas and requires regular tank refilling.

New high-efficiency oil furnaces can reach AFUE ratings of 86-87%. However, most oil furnaces are older and less efficient. Oil furnaces have high maintenance costs as the components need frequent replacements.

Heat Pumps

Heat pumps are actually a versatile heating and air conditioning system in one. During winter, they extract latent heat from outdoor air or the ground and concentrate it to warm your home. This allows them to provide up to 3-4 times more energy than they consume! Ductless mini-split heat pumps are also very popular.

The best cold climate heat pumps now have very high efficiencies, making them cheaper to operate than electric resistance heating. Heat pumps also provide cooling in summer. However, output drops in extremely cold weather. Hybrid systems with a supplemental gas furnace may be an ideal solution.

When selecting a new furnace or heating system, factors like efficiency, your climate, utility costs, and features should be taken into account. Qualified HVAC specialists at Logan A/C & Heat can assess your home and requirements to recommend the ideal system for your needs and budget.
