Each year, our Furnace Giveaway for Flyers Fans — held in partnership with the University of Dayton — gives one local homeowner a major win before the final buzzer of winter. This year, more than 350 Dayton-area residents entered for a chance to upgrade their heating system and stay warm through the rest of the season.

The giveaway ended February 15, and the selected homeowner moved from notification to full installation in just five days. CONGRATULATIONS to Rosemary of Dayton!

On February 17, Riley from our marketing team made the call every entrant hoped to receive. And within 24 hours, Rosemary’s in-home evaluation was scheduled and completed. Our team moved quickly to complete her furnace replacement two days later so her home would stay warm for the remainder of the heating season.

A Furnace Past Its Prime

Rosemary’s previous furnace was more than 25 years old in her 1916 Dayton home. It would shut down unexpectedly, forcing her to reset it just to keep the heat on.

A replacement control board bought her time, but she was advised to begin planning for a full system replacement. Living on Social Security as a retired widow, a new furnace was not a small expense — it was a major decision.

In her entry, she shared both her need and her lifelong connection to Flyers basketball.

“I have had times when it would just stop running, and I learned how to reset it. Then a new computer board was installed, and I was told it was a fix for the time being, but I should think about a new furnace. So far, it is holding up. I am a retired widow on social security. A Flyers Fan Since The Fieldhouse Days

Rosemary’s story is rooted in Dayton tradition. Her father graduated from the University of Dayton on the GI Bill and took her to games at the old fieldhouse when she was a young girl.

When UD Arena opened in 1969, he secured season tickets. Today, her brothers still sit in those original seats and often take Rosemary to games. For her family, Flyers basketball is not just a season — it is a legacy passed down generation to generation.

“I love UD basketball. My Dad graduated from UD on the GI bill. He took me to the fieldhouse to watch the games when I was a young girl. He bought season tickets when the arena opened in 1969. My brothers still purchase Dad’s original seats and take me to the games often.”
