If you lose power to your heating and cooling system, the last thing you want to worry about is whether or not the thermostat will keep the correct settings when the power returns. If you have Trane’s 624 thermostat and it loses power, the thermostat will revert to default factory settings. This is not a problem if the heating and cooling system in your home is a traditional air conditioner and gas furnace. However, if you have a heat pump system, the settings will not be correct.

Step One: Go To ‘Installer Setting’
Starting from the main screen of the thermostat, press the ‘Menu’ button. Then press the ‘Next’ button until the top of the screen says ‘Service’. Once the screen says ‘Service,’ hold down the ‘Select’ button until you reach the ‘Installer Setting’ screen.
Step Two: Set The Outdoor Unit Type
From the ‘Installer Setting’ screen, press the ‘Select’ button. The screen should say ‘Equipment Type’. Press ‘Select’ again. The screen should say ‘Outdoor Unit Type.’ Now you will press the ‘Select’ button in order to choose what type of unit you have. When your thermostat resets, the default is for the unit type to be an air conditioner (shown as ‘AC’). Use the arrows on the side of the screen to switch the unit type to heat pump (shown as ‘HP’). Press ‘Done’, then press ‘Next.’
Step Three: Set The Outdoor Unit Stages
The screen should now say ‘Outdoor Unit Stages.’ You will need to know whether you have a single or two-stage outdoor unit. Typically, our team at Logan Services installs two-stage equipment. However, some people still choose to have single-stage equipment installed in their homes. With this information in mind, press the ‘Select’ button. Then press the arrows to select ‘1 Stage’ or ‘2 Stage’ depending on which applies to your unit. Press ‘Done’ once you have it set to the correct number of stages, then press ‘Next.’
Step Four: Set the Indoor Unit Type
The screen should now say ‘Indoor Unit Type.’ The default for this setting is ‘Gas/Oil’. If you have a dual fuel system with a gas furnace, this setting can be left alone. However, the majority of heat pumps are paired with an electric air handler. If this is the case, press ‘Select.’ Then press the up arrow to find the ‘Electric’ setting. Once you have chosen the correct setting, press ‘Done,’ then press ‘Next.’
Step Five: Check That The Other Settings Are Correct
For the next few screens, the default setting should already be correct. The screen should now say ‘Indoor Heat Stages.’ This should stay as ‘1 Stage.’ Once you have made sure that it is correct, press ‘Next.’ Keep the ‘Indoor Blower Type’ as ‘(Non-Variable)’, then press ‘Next.’ Finally, make sure that the ‘Energizing Reversing Valve’ says ‘(With Cool)’. Then press ‘Next.’
Step Six: Return To The Main Screen
You should now see yourself back at the first step. From here, press the ‘Done’ button until you reach the main screen. Your system should be ready to go.
