How prepared is your heating system for the winter season? Especially as they start to age, an HVAC system will begin to lose its efficiency. While some of that is unavoidable, there are ways that you can help maximize the performance of the heating and cooling equipment, one of those being a maintenance visit.
Seasonal maintenance on the HVAC system is something that most homeowners know that they should do, but there are often some questions that can cause hesitation when booking that service.
Read on to learn some of the most frequently asked questions we receive regarding maintenance on your home’s heating system.
What Does A Furnace Tune-Up Include?
At Logan Services, we service all brands of heating systems. Because there are a number of types of furnaces that we work on, a tune-up will vary depending on the type and age of the system that is in your home. When you book your maintenance, your tune-up appointment will include the following essential checks: testing the system for basic function, verifying electric/fuel connections, confirming the proper operation of the blower, and ensuring that the equipment has adequate airflow. In addition, we will also check your furnace filter (and replace if provided) and the overall cleanliness of the other system components. After doing a thorough check of the system, we will provide you with any findings and recommendations for the best operation moving forward.
How Do You Know If Your Furnace Needs A Tune-Up?
We recommend having seasonal maintenance done on your furnace, air handler, and/or heat pump every heating season. Because some of the same components in your furnace also help operate your air conditioner, much of that system has been working hard all year round. Once your heating system reaches 8+ years of age, it is especially important to schedule regular maintenance, as that is the time period we start to see more adjustments needing to be made for optimal performance.
Is Furnace Maintenance Necessary If You Aren’t Experiencing Issues?
Much like an oil change for a car, your seasonal furnace maintenance is a service to prevent issues from happening. If any system adjustments need to be made, we want to find that prior to any performance issues surfacing, and a seasonal tune-up allows us that prevention opportunity.
Should You Schedule HVAC Maintenance If You Are Experiencing Issues?
A heating system tune-up should be done on a system with no significant performance issues; if you were having operational concerns, it may be best to schedule a service call instead to diagnose the root of the issue. If you are unsure of which appointment type you need, a Logan Services representative would be happy to help you determine the best service type for your situation.
