Earlier this month, we wrapped up the 2nd Annual Furnace Giveaway for Flyers Fans. With this contest, we asked Flyer Nation to help us find local fans who were in need of a new furnace for their home.
After searching through HUNDREDS of entries, we selected a winner to receive not JUST a furnace, but a brand new air conditioner as well!
Congratulations to Dan Wessling from Dayton!

Dan was nominated by his wife, Stephanie. In her entry, Stephanie told us:
“I’m submitting this for Dan Wessling. Dan is a Police Officer who spends his free time and extra money on things like “shop with a cop”, helping to bridge the gap between at risk community and youth. He trained and bought all the equipment to do a ride that raised money for fallen police officers and their families. He is the president of the Montgomery County Law Enforcement Memorial, where he spends his time fundraising and supporting families and the memories of officers hurt and killed in the line of duty. He has driven all over the state to support Ohio Officers, not just ones in Montgomery County. He volunteers and donates to The Wounded Warriors Weekend. He volunteers and fundraises for another organization supporting families of fallen LEO called the shield. His free time and funds goes to supporting those around him.
On top of that, he is a hero in his personal life too. He has taken in me and my daughter, and he has become the best step dad ever, helping to get her first car and paying bills so I can afford to send her to college. Additionally, he has helped me take in my nieces who are 4 and 10 years old. My sister passed away on Christmas day; we have her girls and are working to keep them full custody. He went from having his quiet bachelor home to taking in not only my daughter and now my nieces.
The house desperately needs new heater and the ac doesn’t work; we spent the summer with window units and free standing air conditioning units. We decided to hold off on spending the money to get through the first year of college and save the money, now we are spending extra on having the girls with us, attorney costs, and more supporting costs to having two more people in the house. We have to do other upgrades to the house now, so the furnace is being put off once again.
Dan is a big UD fan! We watch the basketball games whenever we can and go to the games as well. Dan was a security guard / officer for UD basketball games for many years as well. Please pick him — he is totally deserving of the new furnace. It truly couldn’t go to a better human.”
Well said, Stephanie! We were eager to contact Dan to let him know that he was selected as our winner! The family’s new Trane heating and cooling system was installed recently, and they can now find comfort knowing that they can cross that home project off the list!
