On May 28, 2019, 15 tornadoes devastated the Miami Valley in Dayton, Ohio. It’s been a year and a half since we experienced the Memorial Day tornadoes, but the memory of the damage it caused is still fresh in many minds.
Old North Dayton was one of the hardest-hit communities, with nearly 30% of its homes and businesses destroyed. Some people are still dealing with damaged homes today and still trying to get them structurally sound again and livable for their families.

This is how life was for the Johnson family when the tornadoes ripped through their Dayton neighborhood on Macready Avenue. Several homes on Macready Avenue were severely damaged; some were considered a total loss. The Johnson’s roof was structurally damaged, windows were blown out, and the siding had been stripped from the house. As work on the home progresses, the need for electrical, plumbing, and heating and cooling upgrades became apparent.
The Johnson’s applied for assistance through the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Dayton. Habitat for Humanity of Greater Dayton got volunteer groups together to start repairing the nearly 100-year-old home in March 2020. They stepped in and helped this family out so they could get back to living comfortably in their own home. When Habitat for Humanity found out about the extensive damage, they reached out to the team at Logan A/C & Heat Services Inc. to help.
The Logan Services team came out and saw that the furnace needed to be replaced and noticed that the Johnson’s could use a new air conditioner. To provide this family with the best experience, the Logan Services Installers installed a completely new Trane Comfort HVAC System, with both heating and cooling equipment, so the family’s home will stay comfortable for seasons to come.
Sixteen months after the tornadoes swept through the Miami Valley, the Johnson’s were finally welcomed back to a fully restored and very comfortable home. The Logan Services team is happy to have been given the opportunity to help and provide heating and cooling assistance to this local family in need.
