Farmer’s Almanac 2015 Winter Outlook

It may have felt like summer earlier this month, but as the leaves continue to change colors, we will also see a shift in temperature as we fully dive into the fall season.

According to The Old Farmer’s Almanac, the Ohio Valley winter will be very similar to last year's winter. Here's what we can expect for the remaining part of the year:

OCTOBER: We can expect a pleasant start to the month, with colder temperatures entering the during the final week.

Tip #1: Be sure to turn your furnace on BEFORE the first stretch of cold days. If it's not functioning properly, you'll have time to make sure your system is up and running so you aren't left out in the cold.

NOVEMBER: The beginning of the month will start out rainy and overcast. These conditions are likely to continue through the majority of the month, and we may encounter the first snowfall of the season during the week of Thanksgiving.

Tip #2: If HVAC replacement is in your near future, consider upgrading at the beginning of the month to take advantage of the best financing offers available on new Trane furnaces and air conditioners.

DECEMBER: The first week of the month is likely to be snowy. The next couple of weeks should be fair-weathered, but cold, with chance again for a snowy blast at the end of the month.

Tip #3: Keep your outdoor A/C unit free from piles of snow and ice. Also, make sure that you are checking your air filter regularly - frequent furnace usage will likely cause it to be dirty this month.

Don’t wait for the cold to get here: get your home ready for winter now!
