Do You Need A Repair Or A Tune-Up?

Table of Contents

As we begin to make the switch from cooling season to heating season, our team at Logan A/C & Heat Services is often asked the question, ‘What is the difference between a furnace tune-up and repair?’ Both types of appointments are important to keeping your HVAC system running properly, especially at the beginning of the season, but they are very different.

Here are a few questions to ask yourself when you are trying to decide whether to schedule a tune-up or a repair:

Have You Turned On Your Furnace?

We highly recommend turning your furnace on before heating season. If you were having trouble with your furnace at the beginning of spring, more than likely it will still be struggling when you turn it back on at the end of summer. Turning on your furnace will allow you to see if the unit is functioning properly, which will determine whether you should schedule maintenance or a repair.

Is Your Furnace Working?

A tune-up cannot be performed on a furnace that is not functioning properly. Deciding whether or not your furnace is functioning is usually a simple question of, ‘Is it heating the way you would like it to?’ If your furnace is struggling, there is likely a problem. This is when you should schedule a repair. If your furnace does appear to be working correctly, however, scheduling preventative maintenance is your best option.

Do You Need To Fix Or Prevent Problems?

If you have determined that your furnace is not working the way you would like it to, or has an obvious problem, your best option is to schedule a repair in order to have it fixed. A tune-up will not fix what is already broken. During a tune-up, our expert service technicians aim to have your unit running as close to factory standards as possible and can often find failing parts before they cause any major damage or breakdown. As part of a maintenance package, a tune-up will prevent problems from arising in the first place, saving you time and money.
