Best Ways To Prep Your Home For Warm Weather
With the mild winter we experienced in the Dayton, Cincinnati and Columbus areas, many of us are already getting into 'summer mode'!
As you start to make the transition to pool parties, summer vacations and neighborhood BBQ's, take a look at this list of things to prep your home for warmer weather:
1) Check Your Furnace Filter
With the temperature rising, your air conditioner will be more frequently used. This means that your furnace filter may require more regular attention to ensure that it is clean. Add in that allergy season is among us, and you’ll benefit greatly from this monthly routine.
2) Make An Allergy-Friendly Planting List
While you are planning to freshen up your landscape for the spring season, consider researching flowers, bushes and trees that are known to be least allergy-provoking. See our list of recommended plants here »
3) Clean Out The Garage
You likely have a number of spring and summer items to make handy for the warm weather season. While it might be tempting to just chuck everything on the garage floor, clutter can be hazardous as well as an eyesore, and will only cause headaches in the long run.
4) Inspect The Exterior Of Your Home
Walk around the outside of your house. Inspect your gutters to ensure that they are clean. Check your roof for water leaks. Look for deteriorated, missing or damaged roofing material; signs of water leakage needs to be addressed immediately. Wipe off your air conditioner and make sure it is free from debris.
5) Sweep Out and Dust Air Vents
Dust and debris that may have gathered around your vents during winter should be cleaned up. Start cooling season off on a fresh start with clean registers to minimize your risk of dust and allergen irritation. Take it a step further and consider a duct cleaning!
6) Get A Programmable Thermostat
If your thermostat is lacking the capability to be programmed around your schedule, consider upgrading for this added convenience and money-saving benefit. Learn more about the advantages of wifi and smart thermostats »
