When you think about comfort what comes to your mind? Is it a cozy home in a safe neighborhood? Is it stability at work? Is it having happy, healthy children?

To the Chaney family comfort is all of those things combined and much more. To the Chaney’s comfort means living in FREEDOM.

Michael Chaney joined the Army to protect our freedom here in the United States. In 2008, Chaney was deployed to Iraq. After just 4 1/2 months into his tour, Chaney’s convoy was under attack. Chaney suffered from a direct hit to the skull causing a major brain injury. Chaney and members of his unit were brought back to the states where he would begin his biggest battle, the fight for his own life.

Chaney has spent the last year suffering from seizures due to a hazardous chemical he came in contact with during the war. He’s also had to re-learn how to walk and talk. Anxiety attacks are common for Chaney. It’s difficult to leave home, even though many days are spent at a hospital for rehabilitation.

For Chaney’s wife, Crystl, life has also been challenging. Crystl says it was a struggle being away from here husband for months, but now the biggest obstacle she faces is taking care of him (Michael) since he’s been back. Through it all, Crystl has found many things to be thankful for. She is happy to be reunited as a family again. Her strength to get through each day comes from her love for her husband and her children, Ethan who is four and Sapphire who is two. Crystl says she is also blessed to have her father, Steve Thompson (a Viet Nam vet) at her side.

This year, Logan Services was privileged to meet the Chaney family. After hearing the Chaney’s story, the team at Logan Services felt compelled to lend a helping hand. Logan Services provided the Chaney’s with a new Trane furnace, air conditioner, and CleanEffects air cleaner for their home. Providing home comfort is just a small way we can say “thank you” to a family who has provided this nation with the greatest gift anyone can give, and that is the service of protecting OUR FREEDOM.

These days, events at the Chaney household are centered around family. Family time is spent watching movies together and playing games. It’s the simple things that make the Chaney’s time together so rich. Michael Chaney’s wish for the future is for everyone to realize how important family is and to make every second count.

When you are with your family this holiday season remember the freedom you have been given. Remember to thank those men and women who provide it, and may you be blessed with all of the comforts that this great nation has to offer.
